Clifford Lesley Newman is the son of Mrs. Maude C. Worley of 1085 Prickett Avenue, Edwardsville, Illinois. Clifford entered the Merchant Marines on June 18, 1940 and was aboard an oil tanker plying the Atlantic Ocean. It is believed his ship was torpedoed while making a trip to Europe. Seaman Clifford L. Newman is survived by his mother and a brother, John, two step-brothers, Robert H. Worley and Silas Collins and two step-sisters, Mrs. Elmer Ridgeway and Ms. Mary Worley. Seaman Clifford L. Newman is buried at Graceland Park Cemetery in Sioux City, Iowa and was 24 years of age.
