Donald W. Bornman

Sergeant - United States Army

December 28, 1947 - January 5th, 1968

Donald Wayne Bornman is the son of Mr. James Bornman and Mrs. Claudine Bise of Edwardsville, Illinois. Don was born in Alton and lived in Brighton, IL until his family moved to Jefferson County, MO when he was 8. He attended High Ridge Elementary and House Spings H.S. until his family moved to Edwardsville in 1963 and he graduated from Edwardsville High School Class of 1965. While in High School, Don, his brother Ron, Ken Seaton, Gary France, Dave VanVertloo and Gregg Orman played in a rock band, "The Sonics". Don enlisted in the Army on April, 26,1966 and was assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division when he entered the Viet Nam War. Specialist 4 (Sergeant) Donald W. Bornman was killed in action and awarded the Bronze Star Medal for heroic action while on patrol in Viet Nam. Sgt. Bornman's patrol made contact with a superior sized enemy force and engaged in a firefight. He set his men in defensive positions and manned a machine gun until he received a fatal chest wound. He is buried in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, MO. He is survived by his parents and two brothers, Fred and Ronnie. Specialist 4 (Sergeant) Donald W. Bornman was 20 years and 7 days of age.
