Albert B. Metzger lived at 436 Hillsboro Ave., Edwardsville, Illinois, son of Mr. & Mrs. G. F. Metzger. He attended the Edwardsville public schools and was afterward employed here. He was an agent for the St. Louis, Troy & Eastern Railroad at Maryville when he left for military service in April, 1918. Private Metzger had been assigned to Company 27, 10th Battalion, 153rd Depot Brigade (canteen service) at Camp Dix, New Jersey and was stationed there when he fell ill. Four days later, Private Metzger died of pneumonia. Funeral services were held at the family residence and were conducted by Rev. James R. Sager of the First Presbyterian church. The Edwardsville Lodge No. 46, I.O.O.F., of which Private Albert B. Metzger was a member, conducted services at the Woodlawn Cemetery gravesite. Members of Pomegranate Camp No. 372 Modern Woodmen of America, of which Albert was a member in good standing, served as pallbearers. He is survived by his parents and sister Verna and brothers Otis and Rudolph. Private Albert B. Metzger was 27 years, 6 months and 7 days of age.
