Joseph L. Walsh

Joseph Lawrence Walsh is the son of Mr. & Mrs. M. J. Walsh of 311 South Fillmore Street, Edwardsville, Illinois. Joe grew up in Edwardsville and attended local schools. He was employed by N.O. Nelson Manufacturing Company, Brass Shop at the time of his enlistment. He entered the Army on May 25, 1918 and was assigned to Camp Shelby, Mississippi for training. Pvt. Walsh was then assigned to the 151st Infantry Machine Gun Regiment, 38th Infantry Division and died "while in the military service aboard a transport vessel crossing the Atlantic Ocean" and was buried at sea. He is listed among the American casualties at the Suresnes American Cemetery and Memorial (just west of Paris), Ile-de-France, France. Private Joseph L. Walsh is survived by his mother (she died in 1936) and two brothers and two sisters. He was 35 years, 8 months and 29 days of age.
