John P. Bast

Private - United States Army

August 31, 1892 - October 9th, 1918

John Phillip Bast is the son of Mr. & Mrs. Phillip Bast of Springfield Road, just north of Edwardsville, Illinois. John grew up on his parents farm and attended St. Boniface parochial school. John graduated from St. Boniface school and worked on the farm until his induction into the Army on October 4, 1917. He reported to Camp Taylor, Kentucky and from there was transferred to Houston, Texas. Private John P. Bast was assigned to Company E, 132 Regiment, 33rd Infantry Division and departed for France in May, 1918. Private Bast was killed in action in France and is buried in St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery in Edwardsville, Illinois. He is survived by his parents, four brothers, Frank, Ed, Fred and Joe and four sisters, Ms. Louise, Marie, Dollie and Mrs. T. Dollard. Private John P. Bast was 26 years, one month and 9 days of age.
