Stanley Peterson

Private - United States Army

February 5, 1898 - December 2nd, 1918

Stanley Peterson was an orphan boy and was raised in the Helmkamp family in Moro, Ilinois until he was twelve years of age and then in the home of the William Cooper family of Edwardsville, Illinois. Stanley attended local schools and enrolled in a college in Indiana, from which he graduated after two years, in 1916. Stanley returned to Edwardsville and was engaged in agriculture on the farm of Ed Gillham of Wanda. Stanley met Ms. Amanda Meier of Edwardsville and proposed marriage three months prior to his enlistment, with marriage plans upon his return from training camp. Stanley enlisted on November 9, 1918 and was assigned to the Tank Corps, Camp Polk, North Carolina . Private Stanley Peterson died of pneumonia at the Raleigh, North Carolina hospital after a short illness. Burial is at the Cooper Family Cemetery on Yorkville Road east off of Rte. 159 north. Private Stanley Peterson was 20 years 9 months and 27 days of age.
