Edwin J. Schlechte was the son of Mr. & Mrs. Fred Schlechte of near Worden, IL. Private Schlechte entered the Army on November 16,1942 and was stationed at Camp Wolters in Texas for training. He married Ms. Emogene Bloemker and had a son, Frederick Edwin, whom he never saw. In April of 1943 he went overseas and saw action in the North African, Sicilian and Italian campaigns. He was killed in action in Italy on October 13,1943. Besides his wife and son, Private Schlechte is survived by three brothers, Harry, Louis and Clarence. Edwin is buried in St.Paul Cemetery in Hamel, Illinois and was 21 years, 4 months and 2 days of age.
