William D. Hotz is the son of Mr. & Mrs. C.E. Hotz of 115 East Fourth St. in Edwardsville, IL. William lived his whole life in Edwardsville. He attended the local public schools and graduated from Edwardsville High School Class of 1937. William joined the Army in March, 1942 , trained for a year to be a paratrooper and was sent to North Africa in March of 1943. Staff Sergeant Hotz saw action in the Sicilian invasion and participated in the Italian campaign, where he was killed in action. Staff Sergeant William D. Hotz is survived by his parents, a brother, Gerald and a sister, Mrs. Paul Hertel. SSG Hotz is buried in Valley View Cemetery in Edwardsville and was 23 years, 11 months and 16 days of age.
