Melvin Colclasure

Second Lieutenant - United States Marine Corps

July 4, 1921 - November 1st, 1943

Melvin Colclasure is the son of Mr. & Mrs. Earl J. Colclasure of 519 Ramey St. in Edwardsville, IL. Melvin attended the local public schools in Edwardsville and graduated from Edwardsville High School Class of 1940. He was the captain of the high school football team and an outstanding player. He attended Illinois College at Jacksonville and was graduated from the Naval Air Academy in Pensacola, Florida on May 18, 1943. He married Ms. Kay Iona Smith on that very same day. Second Lieutenant Melivin Colclasure was killed in an airplane crash, in which he was a passenger, near Cherry Point, North Carolina Marine Air Corps Base. Besides his wife and parents, he is survived by his brother, Donald. Another brother, Ray, preceded him in death. Second Lieutenant Melvin Colclasure is buried in Memorial Cemetery in Staunton and was 22 years, 3 months and 27 days of age.
