Technician Fifth Grade (Corporal) Oscar J. Brunnworth, formerly connected with a tank outfit, was drowned in Italy according to his parents, Mr. & Mrs. Fred E. Brunnworth. Corporal Brunnworth was born on a farm between Hamel and Worden IL and attended Worden school. After leaving school he worked on farms in the Dorchester IL area until his enlistment on March 24, 1942 and received his training at Fort Chaffee, Arkansas. He went overseas in August of 1943 and took part in the fighting at Anzio beachhead. His brother, Private Edgar W. Brunnworth, also drowned while on a two-week leave from Jefferson Barracks in St. Louis, MO. two years earlier. Corporal Brunnworth is survived by his parents, two brothers, Arthur and Erhard and three sisters, Mrs. Rosina Meyer, Mrs. Lillie Halbe and Mrs. Tony Ostrowsky. Cpl. Oscar J. Brunnworth is interred at the Sicily-Rome American Cemetery and Memorial in Nettuno, Italy. Corporal Brunnworth was 38 years, 3 months and 2 days of age.
