Orville S. Hambleton

Private First Class - United States Marine Corps

July 18, 1925 - October 6th, 1944

Orville S. Hambleton, son of Mark and Olinda Hambleton of Worden, IL, was born near Edwardsville and spent most of his life here, attending the local public schools. Later the family moved to the Worden area where Orville took a job at the grain elevator after leaving school. While working there, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on Oct. 1, 1943. Private First Class Hambleton was assigned to a tank outfit and was engaged in battle on Peleieu Island in the Pacific theater when he was killed in action. Funeral services were held at the Wegener Funeral Home and then to the Methodist church in Staunton IL. Burial with military honors provided by Staunton V.F.W. Post 1241 were at Memorial Park Cemetery in Staunton.
Besides his parents, Private First Class Orville S. Hambleton is survived by one brother, Eldon and four sisters, Doris Jean and Gladys Hambleton, Mrs. Denver Conroy and Mrs. Michael Kuba. Private Fist Class Orville S. Hambleton was 19 years, 2 months and 19 days of age.
