Stanley T. Hittner

Technical Sergeant - United States Army Air Corps

October 6, 1922 - October 12th, 1944

Stanley T. Hittner is the son of Mr. & Mrs. Irvin J. Hittner of Poag IL. He grew up here and attended local schools and graduated at Edwardsville High School Class of 1940. Stanley enrolled at Shurtleff College in Alton and studied mechanical engineering until he volunteered for service in the Army Air Force in 1942. Technical Sergeant Hittner trained as a radioman - gunner on bomber aircraft and was performing that duty when his airplane was shot down during a raid over Germany. His parents received his last letter, dated October 11, that he expected to be sent out on another bombing mission soon. Technical Sergeant Stanley T. Hittner is survived by his parents and a sister, Patricia and is buried in Zachary Taylor National Cemetery in Louisville, Kentucky. He was 22 years and 6 days of age.
