William V. Colbert

Lieutenant - United States Navy

June 17, 1918 - December 20th, 1944

William V. Colbert is the son of Mr. & Mrs. Marshall C. Colbert of Edwardsville, Illinois. Lieutenant Colbert, a Naval Air Force pilot, participated in the first air raid on Tokyo since the Doolittle Raid at the beginning of the war. He received eight Silver Stars and the Air Medal. Lt. William V. Colbert died in an aircraft accident in the Pacific theater. Rev. William Bush of St. John's Methodist Church officiated and Lt. Colbert was buried in Collinsville Illinois. St. John's Cemetery. Edwardsville American Legion Post 199 conducted the military rites at the services and interment. Marks-Weber Funeral Home of Edwardsville made the preparations. Lieutenant William V. Colbert was 26 years, 6 months and 3 days of age.
