Joseph W. Walter

Master Sergeant - United States Air Force

May 15, 1921 - June 7th, 1952

Joseph W. Walter is the son of Mr. & Mrs. Joseph A. Walter of 415 West Union St., Edwardsville, IL. Joe grew up in Edwardsville and attended local schools, graduating from Edwardsville High School Class of 1940. Joe entered the U.S. Army Air Corps on September 9, 1940. Sergeant Joseph Walter married Ms. Dorothy Raub on September 3, 1942. Sgt. Walter served in the European theater of operations during World War II and attended the American University at Biarritz, France. Master Sergeant Walter returned to the United States in December, 1945 and then went overseas again in October, 1950, where he served in Japan and Korea. MSgt. Walter returned on Christmas, 1951 and was assigned to 6531 Flight Test Squadron at Griffiss Air Force Base, Rome, New York. MSgt. Walter drowned when his fishing boat capsized on Lake Delta in New York. Besides his widow and parents, he is survived by three brothers,James, David and Gregory. MSgt.Walter is buried in St. John the Baptist Cemetery in Bucksville, PA. His infant daughter preceded him in death in November, 1948. Master Sergeant Joseph W. Walter was 31 years and 23 days of age.
