Charles L. Rizzoli

June 20, 1924 - December 21st, 1944

Charles L. Rizzoli is the son of Mr. & Mrs. D.L. Rizzoli of 1024 Longfellow Ave., Edwardsville, IL. He grew up and attended local schools and attended Edwardsville High School, graduating in the Class of 1942. Charles then attended Ventura College in Ventura, California to study mechanical engineering and returned to Edwardsville to enter the service on March 10, 1943. Charles was sent to Fort Jackson, South Carolina and Attabury, Indiana for training. Sergeant Charles L. Rizzoli was assigned to the 106th Infantry Division and went to France in October, 1944.
Sgt. Rizzoli and the 106th Infantry Division engaged in one of World War II's most famous battles, the Battle of the Bulge. Sgt. Charles Rizzoli was killed in action near Schonberg, Belgium by mortar fire during that engagement and is buried in the Military Cemetery near Foy, Belgium. Besides his parents, surviving are two brothers, George and Joseph and one sister, Mrs. Helen Reynaud. Sergeant Charles L. Rizzoli was 20 years, 6 months and 1 day of age.
