Stephen J. Menoni

SM2C - United States Navy

October 26, 1947 - September 19th, 1970

Stephen John Menoni is the son of Leonard A. and Irma I. Menoni of 804 Irma Ave. in Edwardsville. He attended St. Boniface Parochial School, was a member of the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts and graduated from Edwardsville High School Class of 1965. Steve enrolled at SIU-E during the 1966 academic year and joined the Navy in 1967. Steve was stationed at Goat Lake Naval Base for Basic Training and was then assigned to the U.S.S. Shelton, were Navy Signalman 2nd Class Menoni saw action in the Viet Nam Conflict. SM2C Menoni was home on leave when, while driving on Rte. 162, west of Troy at night in heavy fog, was fatally injured when his car collided with a train. He is survived by his parents, a brother Leonard L. (Connie) and two sisters, Conny Kapler (Robert) and Linda Huckaby. Services were arranged by Leslie Marks Funeral Home and held at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Pastor William J. Stanley presiding. Signalman 2 Class Stephen J. Menoni is buried in St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery in Edwardsville. He was 22 years, 10 months and 23 days old.
