Christian M. Ahrens

Christian (Christ) Ahrens is the son of Mr. & Mrs. Louis Ahrens, a well-known family of Wanda, Illinois. Christ attended Wanda school and after graduation, took up farming. He was a member of the Eden League of Eden Evangelical church and also a member of the Christian Endeavor at Wanda. Christ entered the Army in June 24, 1918 and was assigned to Camp Taylor, Kentucky for training. Afterwards, Pvt. Ahrens was assigned to the 51st Ambulance Corps. Private Christian Ahrens died from pneumonia at Camp Taylor after nearly ten weeks of illness with influenza. His mother had been in Louisville for eight weeks and visited her son, Private Ahrens, daily at the base hospital. His father made a number of visits to the hospital. Private Christian M. Ahrens died suddenly after an apparent improvement in his condition. He is buried at Wanda Cemetery and is survived by his parents, four sisters, Ms. Charlotte, Clara, Louise and Dorothy, and a brother, August Ahrens. Private Christian M. Ahrens was 25 years, 2 months and 29 days of age.
